Priyanka Chopra’s video of her debut In My City featuring famous rap artist and black eyed peas singer Will.I.Am, went viral on YouTube in less than a week of it launch. Generating 1,256,481 hits so far, the video has its own share of dislikes.

Most of audience liked the video and appreciated her hard work and potential in the music industry. However, there were a few who left bitter remarks.

Accused of being too western the video was lacking the Indian touch promised by PC. While promoting the video she had said, she wanted to project Indian flavours though the video; “Let’s show the world what Bollywood is made of! Let’s do this desi style,” However except for the random auto rickshaws and namastey there wasn’t anything Indian about the video.

Expecting desi fashion, there were quite a few who were disappointed by her western outfits throughout the video. Her fashion sense was criticized by few of the audience and the rest loved her style of teaming up shorts and corset in the same outfit. Skimpily dressed Priyanka Chopra was seen doing the standard Bollywood jhatkas and thoroughly enjoying herself.

Meanwhile we can see Priyanka Chopra dividing her time between India and America, where she had recorded her single. We also see the hard work that she puts-in in anything she does.

Kareena Kapoor’s cousin Armaan Jain enters Bollywood

Meet the new kid on the block – Kareena Kapoor’s handsome cousin Armaan Jain. Reportedly, Imtiaz Ali’s brother Arif is all set to debut direct Armaan Jain. Well, if you recollect, it was Imtiaz Ali who had given Bebo her a big break in the industry with Jab We Met.

Introducing Armaan Jain, he is the son of Randhir and Rishi Kapoor’s sister Reema Jain. The 21-year-old boy will enter Bollywood with a Saif Ali Khan production. It’s heard that the new movie is going to be a sweet rom-com.

Says a source to a tabloid, “Arif is making his first film for Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan’s production house, Illuminati Films. Although details are being kept under wraps, Kareena Kapoor’s cousin, Armaan Jain will make his debut with the film.”

On the other hand, Imtiaz’s brother Arif is no alien to film making. He started off as a writer and has a very strong hold on his dialohues. The dialogues for 2006 film Ahista Ahista was written by him.

Buzz is that a new girl would be roped in opposite Armaan, to play the leading lady in the film.

“It’s going to be a sweet film. Arif has a strong hold on his story and dialogues. He has had a few informal discussions about it with his brothers. But it’s completely Arif’s baby. Imtiaz is proud of the fact that his brothers are getting into the industry,” quoted a daily.

Armaan always knew he wanted to do something in the film industry. The young boy has been under the guidance of Karan Johar for about three years, assistng the latter in a few film. Armaan was also an assistant director on Shakun Batra’s Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

There are reports that Selena Gomez was seen leaving Justin Bieber’s house Saturday morning February 2. And apparently there are photographs as well, though she isn’t pictured in them. Us Magazine describes the scene saying that Selena, “[d]ressed in a yellow cardigan, black pants, and a black hat … was escorted home — suitcases in tow — by one of her ex-boyfriend’s drivers.” “It never ends,” a source told Us Weekly. “We’ll see. It’s such drama with them.” Good luck, kids. We’re sure there will be plenty more of this until Valentine’s Day.

We first reported on the Chris Brown and Frank Ocean altercation last week as news of a brawl outside of a Los Angeles recording studio involving both artists broke. We don’t want to get mixed up in the particulars as the only people who know what exactly went down are the people who were present at the brawl (granted, it looks like Chris planned to jump Frank at the studio and that previous history of beating Grammy nominated artists doesn’t help his case). But what I want to shed light on is the fact that Frank Ocean took to his Tumblr to, yet again, blow my mind whole.

Frank posted a simple blog writing, “as a child i thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man. but as a man i am not a killer. i’m an artist and a modern person. i’ll choose sanity. no criminal charges. no civil lawsuit. forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. peace, albeit trite, is what i want in my short life. peace. (sic)”

Based on the case the police and Ocean’s team could potentially build, it seemed like a slam dunk for the prosecution against Chris Brown (and for the media circus that would ensue, I suppose). Because Chris Brown is on probation he probably would be sent to jail. I’m not too certain on how the American prison systems work, but I have it on good authority that if you hit women, have a history of violence, jump innocents, and act like an all-round jackass, then the likelihood of jail time is pretty good. However, after such said violence with Rihanna, Frank Ocean, failing drug tests, and that other altercation with Drake, one might think that Chris Brown is one lucky guy.

Whatever. Let’s stay positive and return to what really matters: Frank Ocean and his ability to forgive. We commend Frank on being able to move past and forward. A part of me kinda feels like Frank should have seized this opportunity to take Chris off the streets. No matter. I just hope Justin Timberlake is right in singing, “What goes around… comes around.”

Drake releases new track ‘Started From The Bottom’

As someone who travels on Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway on a daily basis, the silver lining to the dreaded gridlock in the past few weeks has been seeing Drake’s latest billboard announcing Started From The Bottom, the first single from his upcoming album. The Toronto-born MC released the new track over the weekend and posted the following message on his personal site to accompany the the lead single from his third studio album.

My good friends,

It has truly been too long. I assume you’re all keeping well and making the most of this year that has been given to us. Today is the day to begin sharing my newest work with you. This is the first single off of my upcoming album. I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen. I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve. I am proud of every part of my past and I’m excited for this song to find a place in your life as well. I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me. Judging by this post, the tour that we’ve been planning, the conversations about new songs and album artwork…I think it’s safe to say we’re back together again. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

The song focuses on Drake’s rise to the top of the music world, taking on familiar subject matters like his relationship with his family and his allegiance to his friends. The track has a solid beat and features a new style of rapping for Drake, who takes on a clipped tone rather than his usual melodic rapping style.

Unfortunately, Started From The Bottom doesn’t feel like a first single. The track isn’t radio-friendly like Take Care and doesn’t doesn’t fit into the club banger category like Fancy. Drake has never been an artist to aim for Top 40 chart position with his music, but the song can’t even be praised for taking musical chances like Drizzy’s past work on Find Your Love or Little Bit feat Lykke Li. Sounding more like a filler track than a kick-off to a new album, Started From The Bottom is hopefully not a precursor for what’s to come on the Drake’s upcoming disc.

If you were watching the Super Bowl XLVII broadcast last night you might have seen a familiar face. Actually, you might have seen three familiar faces: Michael Bublé, Chad Kroeger, and Avril Lavigne. Playing off the power couple known as Chavril, Michael takes this opportunity to tell the duo and the rest of Canada that he’ll be hosting the 2013 JUNO Awards which will be held at Regina’s Brandt Centre.

The hilarious promo is only a prelude to the exciting and entertaining night we’ll have with Bublé and the best of Canada’s musical talent. And another thing we can look forward to? Michael will also be announcing more details surrounding his fifth studio album and will be performing the first single at the JUNOS! Pulling double duty hosting and performing? What can’t this crooner do?

Beyonce announces Mrs. Carter Show World Tour

After finishing a huge performance last night at the Super Bowl, Beyonce has announced on her office website that she will be embarking on a world tour. Starting on April 15 in Serbia, the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour will take Beyonce across Europe and North America, with unfortunately only two Canadian stops.

The 46-date tour will conclude on August 3 at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, where Beyonce and husband Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, have a $1 million nursery for their daughter Blue Ivy. Beyonce’s last world tour was in 2009 with the I AM…World Tour, which ran for almost one year and included 108 shows.
