Aamir Khan feels he is nowhere close to Amitabh Bachchan

Aamir Khan has very high regards for megastar Amitabh Bachchan and says, Big B is beyond his league and so, he would never even think of competing or being on the same platform as that of the 70-year-old superstar.

“I don’t feel I am on the same platform as him, I am not even anywhere close. I can’t compete with him because I hold him in such high esteem,” Aamir, 47, said in a statement.

Both the stars were contenders for the title ‘icon of the country’ on the TV show “India’s Prime Icon”. Others running the race were politician Narendra Modi and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan haven’t yet worked together in a film.

Meanwhile, the government of Chhattisgarh is planning on roping in Aamir Khan as a brand ambassador to promote the paddy production in the state. The actor will officially become the brand ambassador by March and his role will be very similar to that of Amitabh Bachchan who endorses Gujarat. However, things are not yet confirmed as a nod from aamir is still awaited.

Says the minister, “Film star Aamir Khan will be the brand ambassador of Chhattisgarh by March if everything goes well. It would be like Amitabh Bachchan, who has been endorsing Gujarat tourism. Aamir will promote paddy production in Chhattisgarh, where the main occupation of the people is agriculture. A dialogue is underway with Aamir Khan and very soon he will take a final decision.”

Also included in Destiny’s Child are members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Just seeing the posters you knew this movie would be different! When was the last time you saw english subtitles for a hindi movie… and belive me, its hard to follow the dialogues without it… why… cause the language is legit haryanvi! It’s been many many years since i’ve seen audiences react the way they did in a theater… there was clapping, whistles and spurts of wholehearted laughter… not something you come across in your everyday bollywood flick. The drunken escapades and the completely random craziness that was littered throughout the movie reminded me of a desi version of the popular english flick… hangover!

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola didn’t just deliver… it did so with a bang! The promotions would tell you the lead actors are Imran and Anushka… but nopes.. far from it, the main character… and he outshone the others by leaps and bounds… was Pankaj kapoor. Many of you youngsters out there might not have seen his brilliance in television in the 90′s… but wow, what a talent. His portrayal of the dual personality Mr. Mandola was just fantastic. It was a very complex role to play… if it was outright hilarious when he tries to light a cigar while crash landing a plane, or sinister when he reveals his plans of duping the farmers off their land, the intensity and reality he brought to his character was something  else. You just dont get that kind of breed of actors anymore. Cheers, Pankaj Kapoor… you were simply brilliant.

Imran Khan grew out a beard, and tried his best to sport a tough guy look.. but alas, if only facial hair made someone a better actor. He was just the same kid who acted in any of his other roles… there was nothing new in what he brought to his role of Matru. There is talent, undoubtedly… but even in such innovative movies, if he continues with his bland face routine of dialogue delivery and ultra rehearsed scenes of trying to act like the responsible one… then he should just limit himself to the chocolate faced romantic comedy hero he is so readily built out for.

Anushka Sharma has once again put in a stellar performance. The ease with which she is able to scale new heights of acting speaks volumes of her growing confidence in her abilities. While she might not look the cute girl next door (like she was in Band Baaja Baraat), Anushka still looked amazing in her long flowing gowns and lehenga’s. What was demanding in Anuhska’s character as Bijlee was the sadness that she tried to cover up by her extrovert and radical ways. There are some scenes where you can feel the pain and anguish she is going through while dealing with her father. Anushka is fast developing into one of the top actresses of Bollywood, and this movie is a feather in her already well endowed cap!

But Matru Ki Bijlee ka Mandola was never about these characters… sure there was comedy, there was drama and there were songs… but behind everything there was one common underlying issue: a message. And  not speaking about this message would be doing injustice to the passion and spirit which the director, Vishal Bharadwaj, made this movie.

There are two India’s… one in the villages, where daily sustenance is governed by the forces of nature and where one is not directly in control of their own destiny… and the second, in the rat race of city life, offices and malls. The average Indian, in reality, lies somewhere between these two polar ends but that is also where the truth is. In a very light, and non-preechy way… so that the youth don’t get turned off… instead try to understand the core issues… the direction team has tried to bring out the lack of a “system” in India. The politicians who are constantly on the lookout for power, money and ego, the collector who doesn’t give a hoot for the people he is meant to take care of, the police officer who believes in sitting on the fence and using his power to exploit the poor, the zamindar who only care for his needs… and also, the idealist… university trained, jhola and kurta weilding, beard grown out… the revolutionary.

There is strong message that in engrained in the movie. One that very often, we city folk overlook. Progress and Development is good, but the issue is it need to be inclusive. Now, i don’t know how well this message will sit with the audience, but fact is what was shown was a reality, and it’ll be for the best if we understand what role each of us have to play as a community.

As his previously squeaky clean image continues to fade away, Justin Bieber was recently accused of assaulting one of his former bodyguards.

According to TMZ, the “Beauty and a Beat” singer faces a lawsuit for assault and battery from Moshe Benabou, who worked for the Biebs from March 2011 to October 2012.In the complaint, the ex-member of the Israeli army was allegedly berated and punched in the chest multiple times during an argument with the young pop star.

In addition to damages for the assault and battery itself, Benabou is also seeking $420,000 in unpaid overtime.

GOLDEN AGE: At 85 years old, Emmanuelle Riva of “Amour” is now the oldest best actress nominee, while 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis of “Beasts of the Southern Wild” is the youngest in that category. The oldest nominee across all acting categories remains Gloria Stuart, who was 87 when she received a supporting actress nod for 1997′s “Titanic,” and the youngest is Justin Henry, who was 8 when he was nominated as supporting actor for 1979′s “Kramer vs. Kramer.”

VETERANS DAY: Nine of the nominees, including all of the supporting actor nominees, are previous winners: Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones of “Lincoln,” Denzel Washington of “Flight,” Alan Arkin of “Argo,” Robert De Niro of “Silver Linings Playbook,” Philip Seymour Hoffman of “The Master,” Christoph Waltz of “Django Unchained” and Helen Hunt of “The Sessions.” Jessica Chastain, up for “Zero Dark Thirty,” is the only acting contender who was nominated last year.

RECORD BREAKERS: Some nominees are smashing records. Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy share the record for the most best picture nominations for individual producers with eight each. With his best picture nod for “Argo,” producer George Clooney joins Warren Beatty as the only powerhouses to have nominations for best picture, directing, writing and acting. Michael Kahn is now the most-nominated film editor, having received his eighth nomination this year for “Lincoln.”

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: “Amour,” which is nominated in five categories this year, is the fifth film to be nominated in both the best picture and foreign language categories. The others were “Z,” which won the foreign language trophy in 1969; “The Emigrants,” a foreign language nominee in 1971 and a best picture nominee in 1972; “Life Is Beautiful,” which won the foreign language award in 1998; and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” the foreign language winner in 2000.

TMZ is reporting that amidst today’s announcement that Britney Spears has quit The X Factor, the singer will instead be working on her eighth studio album. The disc is to be produced largely by her Scream and Shout collaborator Will.i.Am, as well as Danja.

While we’re excited to hear a new disc from the Princess of Pop, we’re torn on whether working with Will.i.Am is the best move. We break it down in this Scream and Shout list of pros and cons.

1. Scream and Shout is kind of terrible.
2. Britney’s most recent albums have been heading in the direction of Will.i.Am’s dance-driven sound for a while and this pairing could mean we’re getting a replica of Femme Fatale.
3. These two together may break a record for the most product placements in a video/album.
4. More fake British accents from Brit.

Shout

1. Scream and Shout is kind of excellent.
2. Fergie’s debut solo album, The Duchess, was produced by her BEP bandmate Will.i.Am and included huge hits like Fergalicious and Clumsy.
3. Britney isn’t one to experiment with her sound, making Will.i.Am a safe bet for an album full of chart topping singles.
4. Will.i.Am works better when he’s involved with other artists, ie. Blacked Eyed Peas and The Beginning versus Will.i.Am and Songs About Girls.

Paramore release video teaser for new album

Paramore are set to release their first studio album in three years on April 9th and are giving fans a sneak peek of what to expect from the revamped band. Paramore posted a one-minute clip to their label’s YouTube page, which includes 50 seconds of their new track Now along with studio footage shot while recording the band’s fourth album, the self-titled Paramore.

The new disc is the first full album from the band since reforming after a messy split with founding members Josh and Zac Farro. Now a trio, band members Hayley Williams, Jeremy Davis, and Taylor York are set to release their first single from the disc, Now, later this month on January 22.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 stars reportedly can’t stop fighting and friends fear they could be heading for a break-up. A source told Life & Style, “Things with them aren’t good. They’ve been fighting a lot.” The source continued, “Rob isn’t happy. It’s just a matter of time before he ends this.” Robert and Kristen briefly split up last year when she cheated on him with married director Rupert Sanders and Robert has struggled to forgive her despite reconciling.

A source previously said, “Rob is at a point where he sometimes ignores her. He’ll go out and won’t respond to her calls or texts right away. Things will be strained for a while. “She knows she has to go along with it. She is working hard at the relationship.” Friends believe their relationship will be truly tested when they are forced to spend long periods apart on different film sets in the near future. One pal said: “If they are able to work out being apart while Kristen is filming then they have a shot.”

Entertainment Weekly has posted exclusive new shots from the set of Catching Fire, reminding us that the film’s release date of November 21st cannot get here soon enough. The mag features the first shots of Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair, as well as Philip Seymour Hoffman in his role as Plutarch Heavensbee.

Claflin and Jennifer Lawrence appear on the cover of this week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly as their Catching Fire characters, with Claflin talking to the mag about the pressure of living up to the famous character. “Pressure, pressure, the pressure is on,” Claflin told EW. “I’m on Twitter and so many people are like, ‘Don’t mess this up, or we will kill you.’ People are just worried that I’m not going to be as sex god enough as Finnick should be. I’ve literally had four months of eating nothing but chicken and asparagus. I just want a burger and a beer.” And I just want these eleven months to go quickly and see Catching Fire.

Lady Gaga enjoyed an Italian feast with Taylor Kinney on Tuesday. The Born This Way singer and her boyfriend tucked into a gourmet spread at Italian restaurant after attending the An Evening with the Chicago Bulls charity event at Studio Paris in Chicago. An eye witness told People, “They were very affectionate and touchy sitting next to each other. I heard her call him ‘honey’.”

The lovebirds, who have been dating since 2011, were joined by a group of friends and placed a mammoth order including lobster caprese, insalata bianca, duck agnolotti, Sicilian pork arrosti, Mediterranean octopus, Mama DePandi’s bucatini pomorodo and short rib pappardelle. The high-spirited party then indulged in a selection of creamy desserts. The 26-year-old superstar has visited the Italian eatery, owned by Bill and Giuliana Rancic, twice in recent times, but a disappointed Giuliana missed her on both occasions.

She tweeted: “Bill saw her last time. I’m 0/0 (, (sic)”. Gaga has confessed in the past that Taylor encourages her to enjoy her food and not to be so self-conscious about her weight, especially since her own father opened an Italian restaurant which serves all her biggest weaknesses. She explained: “My boyfriend prefers me curvier. When I eat and am healthy and not so worried about my looks. I’m happy. Happier than I’ve ever been. I am not going to go on a psycho-spree because of scrutiny. This is who I am. And I am proud at any size.”

Adele feels like Meryl Streep with her Oscar nomination. The British singer/songwriter in is the running for Best Original Song for her track Skyfall from the same-titled James Bond film and she is so over-whelmed to be up for an Academy Award she feels like the actress, who has taken home three gold statuettes. Sharing her joy on Twitter Adele posted, “Oh my god I feel like Meryl Streep!! Thank you x (sic)”

The latest spy installment’s music and sounds are also nominated for Best Original Score, Best Achievement in Sound Editing and Achievement in sound mixing as well as the film gaining eight BAFTA nominations, including Outstanding British Film. However, star Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes missed out on several Best Actor and Best Director awards at this year’s ceremonies.

Star Trek: Into Darkness actress Alice Eve and War Horse‘s Jeremy Irvine, who are fans of Sam’s latest installment and the entire franchise, insisted the nominations are well merited and are proud of its achievement. Speaking from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ (BAFTA) headquarters in London earlier this week, Jeremy said, “Skyfall has taken quite a few, it’s amazing to see a movie that is part of a franchise stand alone”, with Alice adding: “And such a high grossing movie. To come in and take artistic credit, which it deserves, is very unusual.”

The stars of music, movies and TV shine at the People’s Choice Awards

The Hunger Games was the big winner at the People’s Choice Awards last night, picking up five prizes. The blockbuster film was named Favourite Movie, Favourite Action Movie and Favourite Movie Franchise, while its star Jennifer Lawrence was named Favourite Movie Actress. Lawurence and her co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth also took home Favourite On Screen Chemistry.

Jennifer, who beat competition from Mila Kunis, Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson to take the Favourite Movie Actress accolade, said “Thank you for loving movies as much as I do, and loving this movie and voting.” However, the 22-year-old beauty also admitted she wasn’t feeling very glamorous on such an auspicious occasion, continuing “Oh my gosh, I’m sweating so much I’m gonna drop it. Oh god, Robert Downey Jr. knows, I sweat all over you … when I shook his hand!”

Katy Perry was the biggest individual winner, being named Favourite Female Artist and Favourite Pop Artist, while her Part of Me single was honoured with Favourite Pop Video. Her ‘KatyCats’ were named Favourite Music Fan Following. She said afterwards the awards were a “very nice way to start off the New Year”, adding “I think if I had to pick one of the awards, Favourite Music Fan Following would be my favourite one because my fans support me so much.”

British boy band One Direction scooped two prizes, Favourite Song for What Makes You Beautiful and Favourite Album for Up All Night. Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory hosted the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Performers included Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean and Alicia Keys.
A record-breaking 475 million votes were cast for this year’s event.
