For a fashion conscious actress like Sonam Kapoor, going sans make-up, designer outfits and expensive accessories, is not an easy thing. But Aanand L. Rai, the director of Raanjhanaa demanded Sonam to take up this challenge and eventually succeeded in getting what he wanted from the actress.
Reports state that, there were heated arguments between Sonam and her director, over the “no make-up” topic.
Says a crew member, “Aanandji was very clear that he wanted NO makeup at all. Sonam had her own interpretation of what ‘no makeup meant’. There was much back-and-forth of opinion on this between them, since Sonam is a very fashion-conscious actress. She had never appeared without makeup on screen and to do so, she needed to build a new kind of self-confidence. To her credit, she did finally relent.”
The other major problem the director faced was the difference in skin tone between the lead pair Sonam and Dhanush.
Says director Aanand Rai, “No matter how different Sonam and Dhanush might be in personality, they finally had to look like two halves of one complete whole. If I may so, I’ve succeeded in making Sonam and Dhanush look like they were born to be together. As for Sonam’s look, she wears no make-up in the film.”
Meanwhile, Sonam Kapoor is very content with the final outcome of the film and says, Raanjhanaa has revived her passion for acting.
“I rediscovered my passion for acting because of ‘Raanjhana’ and my love for the human spirit,” Sonam tweeted.
Raanjhanaa hits theaters on 28 June after which Sonam will be seen in “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, which releases July 12.
