After breaking the internet yesterday with news that Destiny’s Child would be reuniting to release a best-of album with a new track, the first song in eight years from the trio has now hit the web. It’s…okay. Actually, forget it. I’m being nice. This is straight up disappointing.
With a title like Nuclear I expected a high-energy anthem of empowerment and fierceness from DC3, closer to Lose My Breath or Independent Woman. Instead, Nuclear sounds more like a last minute addition to the group’s 2001 Christmas album. Producer Pharrell Williams lays a 90′s beat to the track, with all three women singing their own versus and harmonizing for the chorus.
Maybe it’s a song that takes a few listens. Maybe it will sound catchy and ground-breaking to me after a few more listens. Or maybe we should just wait for Beyonce’s new album to drop later this year.
The trio are set to perform together during this year’s halftime show at The Super Bowl and hopefully they reach into their giant bag of hits for the setlist instead of relying solely on the new track. I’m not watching four hours of football for this.
