Predictions for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards

Predictions for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards

Perks 2

The nominations for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards will be announced today at 7:58 p.m. ET in a special broadcast. Announcing Movie of the Year will be this year’s host Rebel Wilson and MTV News’ Josh Horowit .

The nominations announcement will continue in a 30-minute live-stream on MTV.com. Stars of Jersey Shore and Teen Wolf will make appearances to unveil the nominees and new categories, such as Best Musical Moment and Best Shirtless Performance.

Blockbuster films like The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers were snubbed at the Oscars, but hopefully that won’t be the case for the MTV Movie Awards, which cater to general audiences rather than film buffs.

Expect Twilight to dominate (undeservingly) in all categories. The franchise has been a favourite of the MTV Movie Awards since 2009. You might as well rename the show The Twilight Awards.

Twilight’s Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have won Best Kiss five times in a row. In tradition of this category, recipients lock lips on stage to tease audiences. Twihards are desperate to see the real-life couple finally kiss on live television. With this being the last film in the series, perhaps it will finally happen?

Although Twilight’s rival, The Hunger Games, was released in theatres in 2012, it was recogni ed at last year’s show. To fill the void of the popular teen book-turned film spot is The Perks of Being a Wallflower starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, E ra Miller and Nina Dobrev.

The show won’t just be a celebration of 2012’s box office champions. Expect Oscar favourites like Les Misérables and Life of Pi to also be contenders in major categories.
