Abbas-Mustan’s action thriller, Race 2, which released on the 25th January, collected a total of ₹15.12 crores worldwide on its day of release.
“We are very happy with the opening of Race 2. To ensure we get maximum numbers, the film was released in 3,200 screens – third largest till date. We are expecting a great weekend,” Gaurav Verma, director – India Theatrical Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement.
Race 2, which is a sequel to 2008 superhit film Race 2 stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel. Anil and Saif are the only two actors who reprise their role from the original version while the rest of the actors are new additions. Bipasha Basu is also seen in a cameo.
The movie has not been able to garner much positive reviews from audience and critics alike. Looks like this factor may affect the collections. However, it’s still to be seen whether this holds true for Race 2.
