Movie Review : Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga

saare jahaan se mehnga

Movie: Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga

Bollywood Celebden Rating: 2/5

Cast: Sanjay Mishra, Vishwa Mohan Badola, Pragaty Pandey, akir Hussain, Sitaram Panchal

Story: Rupesh Thapliyal, Vijay Manral

Music: Manish J.Tipu

Director: Anshul Sharma

Story:
Puttanpal (Sanjay Mishra) is a typical middle class person who works in a government veterinary hospital and has a small family with wife Noori(Pragaty Pandey) who runs a small beauty parlour, a retired father Nagpal(Vishwa Mohan Badola) who wants to live privileged life and an unemployed brother Gopal(Sitaram Panchal) who is struggling to pass his intermediate since 3 years. Puttanpal is very frustrated with the hike of the prices on basic commodities by the government due to which he comes up with an idea within the system’s law where he can buy all the required stuff for survival which is sufficient for 3 years at once by taking a loan. However, he will be facing lot of consequences from a loan officer ( akir Hussain) who thinks Puttanpal is cheating the government. The rest of the movie is about how Puttanpal gets away from the Loan officer proving what he is doing is right and not against the law.

Artists Performance:
Sanjay Mishra was good as usual as a frustrated middle class husband who is not even able to feed non-veg to his family once in a month, especially his acting in climax is emotionally well enacted. All the other characters are pretty much new and they did decent job is all I can say but nothing exceptional in terms of performances considering the casual nature of movie.

Technical Aspects:
The movie is mostly shot in a typical middle class house and the neighbourhood around it, so there is nothing much to ask from a cinematographer but it was decently presented. Most of the movie is about dialogues and drama so there is not much impact from music director and couple of songs that he composed are forgettable.

Analysis:
The whole movie gives you the feeling of being pretty casual with not much melodrama, twists, item songs and stuff like that. It just goes on with the realistic feel of how a typical middle class family suffers. 1st half of the movie is all about setting the tone by building up the characters and getting us connected to the theme of the movie which was done okay. 2nd half of the movie is about what kind of clever tactics will Puttanpal & Co implement to outsmart the loan officer and solve the issue.

It was indeed an honest attempt by the debutant director Anshul Sharma but end of the day all you can feel while coming out of the movie is questioning “is it worth it?” and it does not leave any kind of impact on you and neither it gives you pleasant feeling while watching. Considering the era of Bollywood which is ruled by intense seductive thrillers, masala clichés, illogical comedies I don’t think “saare Jahan se mehanga” will even go noticed by the audience provided the lack of publicity. If we talk about awards then the movie again fails because there is nothing in it that deserves an award say it an interesting story line or an intense acting performances or something at least considerable.

Bottom Line: If you like watching Doodarshan TV serials of mid 1990’s then wait for the DVD.
